Mateo & Matos – MAW Basics (Gerd remix) – 1nce Again

while I do own the original 1992 version of this track, this one is a reissue of M&M’s 1994 remix, which is actually pretty difficult to find. this is coming out on Local Talk sub-label, 1nce Again, which is their platform for the re-release stuff, and they’ve done us the favor of including two remixes by Gerd, both of which would come in handy on a dancefloor, as he’s added some serious OOMPH to the low end, even on his “Deep” mix. over the course of time, of course, the original will hold up so much more. however, Gerd’s mixes make for a lot of fun and will certainly help sell these records like hotcakes.

if you don’t have any version of this or are unfamiliar entirely, this is seriously essential stuff. Mateo & Matos at the peak of their powers. out June 4th from all the usual outlets.

Rene & Angela | “I’ll Be Good”

I heard Doug Gomez (one-half of NY’s Drrtyhaze duo) drop this deep number at my Slow Disco Saturdays party last weekend (hear the whole show here) – such a great tune. this Disco funk classic from ’85 epitomizes the “slow Disco” sound I am always talking about; it’s that kind of pitched down boogie low on the BPM scale, but can still can work the dance floor to a sweat. I’m not the biggest fan of “electro-Funk,” but these guys really make that raw, spaced out sound incredibly sexy here. get this in your ears!

Pal Joey – Party Time – Loop de Loop

this just wasn’t a House blog until we gave Pal Joey some love. so, here he is with probably the best known tune from his Loop de Loop label. I have heard this countless times at parties, most notably when I heard Charles Webster play it at Cielo and nearly lost my shit. there’s something about Joe’s simplicity and how he gets a minimal amount of elements to work to maximum effect, which why he really appeals to everyone. this tune fits right in that mold, and then the “party time” sample drops, and the place goes bananas.

the Loop de Loop stuff is usually relatively easy to get your hands on, though this one may be a bit more sought after than the others. nonetheless, seek and ye shall find.

Terri Wells | I’m Givin’ All My Love (Philly World Records)

your Disco for the day: proper boogie funk by Philly’s gospel-singer-turned-Disco-star, Terri Wells on the superb Philly World Records. before laying our dusty fingers on this record, we’ve never heard of Terri Wells nor Philly World Records, which we soon learned delivered a slew of quality music to the niche world of underground Disco funk (we’ll be posting more from both soon, so stay tuned!).

aside from this tune making me break out into dance every time, I just love how there are so many parts to this song – an uplifting piano solo, instrumental breakdowns, and subtle, Motown-flavored background vocals.

Wells’ incredibly strong voice keeps building up throughout the tune with great momentum, only to induce what I imagine to be a dance floor frenzy when played out at the right place at the right time; I can’t wait to play this out myself some day. entertaining music video here, too:

Feelin’ Vibes – Feeling’ Vibes – Bottom Line

don’t tell rose I’m posting this, as it’s one of her records and I think she wanted to do it. it’s just one of my favorite tunes from our new mix, and I couldn’t wait any longer.

I have been sweating this little one-sided groover ever since she first brought it home from A-1 records on East 6th in the Village.  anything one-sided always catches my attention right away, as they’re essentially saying, “nothing could go on the other side of this, it’s all about this one tune, enjoy”

and what a tune it is. an irresistible, jazzy beat and bassline combo get an impossibly catchy vibes hook and a sample from Eddie Grant’s “Time Warp” dropped over them, and there’s not much else to say except pure deep dancefloor mayhem. if this doesn’t make you dance, you may want to check your pulse.

this won’t be too hard to find. check out any local record shop that carries older house records. and if you’re unfamiliar with Bottom Line, then get familiar. amazing label with a very high output; I think we’re going to post a few more Bottom Line Records very soon.

sorry, darling x

the love revolution mixtape vol.2

we’re excited to post this, our second installment in this mix series. once again, and as is becoming the love rev style, it’s mostly old records with some new records that sound like old records. we’re proud, because this is a really great picture of the artists, labels and sounds we are feeling and playing these days.

so many records to talk about here, we’ll likely cherry pick a couple to do specific posts about, but for the most part, the track list will be posted right here on this very page. AND, check out the very last tune by French producer Janeret. we have some big plans for this kid, indeed.

no more words, here’s the music —> THE LOVE REVOLUTION VOL.2

we hope you enjoy

love,

Shane Linehan – Basic grooves vol.2 – Basic Grooves

this is the second time in a short while that we’re posting about Shane, and we’ve already mentioned that we have some exciting news regarding him and us, but more on that later. for now, we want to call your attention to this furious two-tracker he’s dropping next week on his own label, Basic Grooves.

more underground filth of the highest level of quality here. “Get Together” shows strength in it’s low-slung, rather sleazy bassline and dirty, old-school hi-hats, but “The Future” takes the cake as the smoother number, sporting lush chords and a more swinging rhythm.

limited 300 copies so look lively. you don’t want to miss this and it doesn’t look like Shane is doing digital releases for the BG stuff. another reason why we like him.

Chez Damier feat. Leroy Burgess | Your Love (2 or More Raw Dub)

Sweet, jazzy House from ’04 on Brooklyn’s iconic label, Track Mode. the whole release is a perfect platter of funky remixes, dubs and edits for the deep House head, but Chez’s “2 or More Raw Dub” remix is the winning track for me. I first heard it on Kai Alce’s superb Juno podcast mix he did back in January (check it out here). the cool beat, lazy saxophone, funky chords and choppy vocals all together gave me that insatiable high I get when music hits all the right spots. The original was written and produced by Detroit’s spiritual House pioneer, Chez Damier and New York’s legendary Disco godfather, Leroy Burgess, whom together make quite the pair. to be honest, I was quite surprised to see Burgess as one of the collaborators on this release, for the singer-songwriter-keyboardist-(insert talent here) was a mainstay figure during NY’s Disco’s golden days, responsible for heavily soundtracking many Paradise Garage nights with endless boogie hits. so, seeing him working the House tip is just another accomplishment on this guy’s lengthy personal hall of fame. anyway, here’s the original of the tune, but you can scope out the Raw Dub I’m raving about here, along with other groovy, soulful twists by Harley and Muscle.

Kool Vibe – Spreading the Vibe part.1 – Traxx Underground

we love finding a great record that’s labeled “Part 1″, because then you know more goodness is to come. I would have been excited about the prospect of a two part EP from Kool Vibe without even hearing this, as his Catching the Vibe EP for My Love is Underground knocked my socks off, enough so that I just had to put it on this Soul Clap podcast that I was working on at the time of it’s release.

but I have heard this release from newcomer Italian label Traxx Underground, and it’s every bit as dope as you’d expect, with all the old school vibes we’ve come to know and love from anyone associated with the MLIU family. I’m sure this will be another super-extra-double-secret-limited pressing, so you may want to act quickly. and the best part; we know there’s more to come. ps – the French are on FIRE at the moment.
